In this tool we decided to address the concept of risk identification.

When we talk about risks we can identify 3 different types of risk:

• Safety risks
• Health risks
• Cross-cutting or organisational risks

Risk assessment provides an understanding of risks, their causes, consequences and related probabilities.

This is the input to decisions such as:

• whether the activity is to be undertaken, or not
• how to maximize opportunities
• whether the risks need to be treated
• choose between options with different risks
• prioritize risk treatment options
• select the most appropriate strategies for the treatment of discs, which can reduce the risks to a tolerable level
